Important Information
All UWG students are required to meet with an academic advisor each semester, prior to registration, to go over the courses they will take to graduate. All undergraduate students have an advising hold on their record that will keep them from registering until they see their advisor.
Students should be aware of their registration time and plan to meet with an advisor well in advance of their assigned date. Registration times are determined by students’ completed semester hours and the last four digits of their social security numbers. Assigned dates are listed in The Scoop. Once students have met with an advisor, their advising hold will be removed and they will be able to register online using the instructions below. Upon registering, they should immediately pay their bill to avoid any late registration fees.
Undecided & Exploratory Students
Students who have not declared a major or students who are exploratory may meet with Cheryl Coppolella on the Newnan Campus or an advisor in the EXCEL Center on the Carrollton Campus. Call ahead – appointments are needed.
Students With Declared Majors & Pre-Major Students
Students who have officially declared a major will need to meet with an advisor from their area of study. Students should contact the department that holds their major to find out about declaring a major and/or being assigned an advisor. Nursing and Early Childhood Education advisors are regularly available on the Newnan Campus.
Pre-business and pre-education students will meet with their major advisor. Other pre-major students will need to make an appointment with an EXCEL Center advisor.
What to expect from your advisor
When students meet with their advisor, they can expect to get specific and detailed information about majors, UWG policies, the Core Curriculum, and career possibilities. If meeting with an advisor to discuss the following semester’s schedule, students are expected to review their transcripts, major and Core requirements, and the class bulletin and bring a tentative course schedule to their advising appointment.
